AGHB Energy Division offers services throughout the Northeast. Our Energy Division specializes in energy use management in order to help you save money, conserve natural resources and improve the quality of life in your home. We design and install high performance energy systems to handle your electric, heating, cooling, and domestic hot water needs. Specialists are available to perform a building analysis of your home to insure the proper system is installed. We can also upgrade your home’s existing heating, cooling and hot water systems, making them more cost effective and efficient.
Solar Energy Sales & Installation
Our sun provides the earth with an enormous and endless wealth of energy. By installing a roof top or ground based Solar photovoltaic systems (solar panels) you can harness this clean, renewable resource and you can save on your electric bill while reduce your carbon foot print. Solar photovoltaic systems can produce a significant amount, if not all, of your home’s electrical energy needs. In addition to your homes electrical needs, solar energy can also be implemented to produce your home’s hot water.
Geothermal Heating & Cooling
Because the earth is able to absorb and store nearly half of the suns energy, temperatures below the ground surface in the Northeast remain between 50-60 degrees year round. The geothermal heat pump, together with the underground earth loop system, drains heat in the summer and harvests heat in the winter distributing the heating and cooling through a conventional home heating and cooling system. The system utilizes environmentally friendly non-ozone depleting refrigerants. The same geothermal system can be used for radiant floor heating systems, force air heating and cooling systems, and can provide a home with domestic hot water heating year round.
Geothermal heating and cooling is not only for new homes. In most cases, a high performance Geo system can be retrofitted to an existing homes system. This means that you don’t have to build a new house to take advantage of a good geothermal system.
American Green Home Builders features the Earthlinked Geothermal Heating System. An Earthlinked system allows you to save thousands of pounds a year in greenhouse gas emissions and reduce your heating costs up to 70%.
Thanks to the system’s superior efficiency and innovative technology, you will be heating, cooling and generating domestic hot water in your home without the risk of carbon monoxide as there are no fossil fuels used or greenhouse gas emissions generated by the burning of fossil fuel.
The Earthlinked system is designed to work anywhere seamlessly, regardless of your climate conditions. It’s small geothermal heat pump and small earth loop footprint, makes it convenient to install and easy to fit in your home and yard, no matter how constrained the space is. And if the systems heat pumps are tied into a solar photovoltaic system your heating and cooling costs will be zero, that’s right- zero dollars, to heat and cool your home. We call this "living off the grid".
Freewatt Systems
The Freewatt system breaks through the energy efficiency barriers of all conventional home heating systems. This system uses an internal combustion engine to produce both heat and electric power, thereby conserving our natural resources and reducing green house emissions. The engine runs on clean natural gas and soon will be available for homes with liquid propane. The system can be installed in a basement or utility room. In addition to being quiet and efficient at generating electric power, the Freewatt system has very low pollutant emissions.
Hot Water Heating
The average family can spend $100 or more per month heating hot water. Even in warmer climates, hot water heaters can account for 25% of a home’s total energy usage. American Green Home Builders can show you a number of ways to reduce this energy use. Through utilization of solar thermal panels, geothermal heating or waste heat recovery systems, you can greatly reduce the enormous energy and financial consumption of heating your water.
Wind Energy
Depending on the average wind speed in your area, wind power may be a viable alternative to using fossil fuels for your home’s energy needs. An average annual wind speed of 13 mph is ideal for this type of system (although some systems can operate at 6 mph or lower), and there are hundreds of options to choose from. Whereas larger units can power all of your electric needs, smaller units are available to run only certain aspects of your energy requirements. With all renewable energy systems, an advanced survey for site feasibility must be performed before making any choice.
Radiant Floor Heating
Tests have shown that our bodies perceive radiant floor heat as more comfortable than forced air or conventional radiators. Radiant hydronic floor systems work with lower temperature water than forced air or standard radiators, which translates into higher efficiency for you. Radiant systems heat the objects in the room without drying the air or providing a haven for dust and allergens. Every project includes a detailed computerized heating analysis using the industry standard calculations based on your existing or proposed home.
Home Automation Systems
Home Automation Systems are designed to maximize your safety, comfort, convenience and energy savings. You can monitor and control your lighting; heating and cooling; security and entertainment systems right from your PC, PDA or phone whether at home or away. Some systems allow you to access your home security cameras and notify you when there are any problems. Whichever system you choose, being able to monitor and control your energy consumption can save you hundreds of dollars in energy costs. Whether new or retrofitted, the automation system will save you energy and money!
Thermal Imaging and Building Performance
Through the use of thermal imaging equipment, air tightness and other tests, American Green Home Builders can perform an energy audit on your home to detect energy leakage, water infiltration and other wasteful points that may be costing you money. Our heat detection cameras we can pinpoint the locations where heat may be escaping such as window and door seals, outlets, fixtures. Blower door and duct tests can provide insight into corrective measures for air leakage issues in you building envelope and duct work systems. We can provide a course of action for corrective measures without the guess work of lesser firms.
